Spectrum Natural organic unrefined coconut oil smells like fresh picked coconut. Even so, its a mild tasting oil that is a perfect trans-fat free choice for frying or as a substitute for hydrogenated shortening. The unrefined oil maintains the beneficial properties inherent to pure virgin coconut oil. In fact, the small grains of brownish material you see in the oil are tannin-like matter with antibacterial properties as well as polyphenolics, which are antioxidants similar in benefit to those found in extra virgin olive oil. By using our mechanical expeller press technique to extract the oil it allows the natural flavor and whole nutritional value of the oil to come through.
